    Juan Rios
    Head Coach

Hi, my name is Juan Rios and I am super excited to be the BARRACUDAS Head Coach this year. I have been a Barracuda for 12 years, and I was District Champion and Top 10 in the region my Junior and Senior year of high school at Westside.  I am currently a student at University of Houston, studying Entrepreneurship, and plan to play for the UH Cougars football team this fall.

While this is my second year as Head Coach, I have served as Assistant Coach in the past, and the Barracudas have always been my home.  This team taught me how to swim and compete, and most importantly, is where I learned to love the sport of competitive swimming. Now that I am Head Coach, I am in the best position to bring back the feeling of family that I remember when I was younger.  I want our swimmers to feel like a true team and it's important to me that the younger ones look up to the older kids. My goal as Head Coach is to be competitive, but having fun will always be on my mind because that's what summer league is all about! I have a few goals for our parents too - please encourage new families to join and make them feel welcome. Also, make sure that your kids are eating well, and doing a little work outside of practice, to better themselves as swimmers. Go BARRACUDAS!

    Abby White
    Assistant Coach

Abby has been a Barracuda swimmer since the age of 4!  2018 is Abby's second year as Assistant Coach. Prior to that she was a junior coach and Barracuda swimmer. Abby is currently a senior at Westside HS where she is a member of the varsity swim team.  Her favorite events are the 100 Breast and the 500 Free.  Outside of racing, Abby has competed in water polo for the past 6 years.  Her goals for our swimmers this summer are for them to learn new tips and improve on their favorite strokes.

    Zach Whitson
    Assistant Coach

Zach has been a Barracuda swimmer since the age of 5!  He served as an assistant head coach for the Villager Piranhas in 2015, and we’re glad to have him back home with South Briar as a second year coach.  Zach currently attends the University of Houston, and is a graduate of Westside HS, where he was a member of the varsity swim team.  His favorite events were the 200 IM and 100 Fly, but also really enjoys freestyle.  Zach was the Offensive Player of the Year and a 2-time MVP for the Westside HS Water Polo team, and made it to the Junior Olympics with the West Houston Water Polo Team.  Outside of the water, Zach enjoys all sports, the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and hanging out with friends.  His goals for our swimmers this summer are to make each one faster than they were when they started, and to keep the Barracuda spirit up along the way!

    Vanessa Pacheco
    Assistant Coach

Vanessa has been swimming since the age of 4, and this is her second year as a South Briar Assistant Coach!  Prior to joining the Barracuda family, Vanessa was a swim instructor and lifeguard at YMCA.  She is finishing her senior year at Westside HS, where she is a member of the Student Council, and also on the varsity swim team.  Her favorite strokes are freestyle, butterfly, and backstroke.  Vanessa’s goals for this summer are to help our swimmers improve their swimming techniques, while also keeping up the fun and excitement that is such a unique part of the summer league swim season.

    Daniel Veiga
    Assistant Coach

Daniel started swimming at the age of 9, and is a life-long Barracuda!  This is his second year as assistant coach and he also served the team as a junior coach. Daniel is finishing his junior year in high school, and swims year round with Dad's Club.  His favorite stroke is freestyle, and he especially enjoys the 50 Free sprint.
